I have a friend who had the same problem happen to him. At first, FileZilla perfectly, then several months later, for now reason, it started uploading the same file multiple times and causing massive delays in simply uploading revisions on a website. He did not even ask for help from FileZilla. He trashed the program immediately, researched an FTP program without problems and is now uploading his files using FireFox and has been very happy with his FireFox plug-in ever since. He doesn't want to waste any of his valuable time on a forum were nothing gets resolved for a question that is so basic and should be easily answered. This is a valid point! ... >> everyone is having same problem for years!! Re: Client uploads same file multiple times. #9 Post by mikewestcoast » 2014-05-14 19:09 To claim this a rare occurrence and that there is no known solution is FileZilla saying, "We see no evil, ear no evil and speak no evil." I gave you my logs, what more do you need? Other people have complained about this same problem on this forum and the answer from the site admin was, "It's not our problem". Regardless if you want to believe it or not, FileZilla has a problem. How many people do you think have the time to write on these forums? Not that many. Most people never complain, they simply leave, tell their friends about their experience and find a program that works like it should. As there are many FTP options and limited time in our lives, my web designer friends have told me it's not worth their time to fight with an organization that put outs a program with problems. Just find one that works and let FileZilla pretend there is no problem. Top >> WOW! Connect your FTP client to your web server and then locate the file you want to CHMOD. 2. In FileZilla, right-click the file on your web server and choose File Permissions to open the file attributes. Your FTP client may use different terminology. The Change File Attributes dialog box opens. 3. Type the correct number in the Numeric Value text field. This is the number assigned to the permissions you want to give the file. Most often, you’re given directions by the plugin or theme developer on which permissions number to assign to the file or folder, and typically, it’s either 644 or 755. You see the permissions are assigned with 755. 4. Click OK. The file saves with the new permissions assigned. Each set of permissions has a numerical code assigned it, identifying what type of permissions are assigned to that file or folder. There are a lot of them, but here are the most common ones that you run into and deal with when running a WordPress website: 644: Files with permissions set to 644 are readable by everyone and writeable only by the file/folder owner 755: Files with permissions set to 755 are readable and executable by everyone, but only writeable by the file/folder owner. 777: Files with permissions set to 777 are readable, writeable, and executable by everyone. Don’t use this set of permissions, for security reasons, on your web server unless absolutely necessary. https://www.guru99.com/file-permissions.html Absolute(Numeric) Mode In this mode, file permissions are not represented as characters but a three-digit octal number. The table below gives numbers for all for permissions types. Number Permission Type Symbol 0 No Permission --- 1 Execute --x 2 Write -w- 3 Execute + Write -wx 4 Read r-- 5 Read + Execute r-x 6 Read +Write rw- 7 Read + Write +Execute rwx >> Howell : I right-clicked on billhowell.ca root directory -> File attributes -> public read failed to recurse - perhaps I forgot to check [dir, file]s? 704 permissions for files? https://doubtsolver.com/ask/312/server-unable-to-read-htaccess-file-denying-access-to-be-safe try 755 https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=399285 Re: 403 Forbidden Server unable to read htaccess file, denying access to be safe by Ken Task - Sunday, March 29, 2020, 11:16 AM Don't host where you host ... don't run a joomla anymore either (does yours need an update?) ... so this is googled info. When you did this, you queued up files in the FileZilla queue. If you log out without removing them, they will stay in the queue until they are removed or deleted. This blog is written to assist new users of FileZilla on how to delete (remove) queued up files already in the FileZilla queue. Follow the steps below: 1. Launch the Filezilla program. 2. Click on Edit on the FileZilla main menu bar. 3. From the drop down options, click on Clear private data... 4. From the dialog box, place a check mark in the Clear transfer queue box, and remove the check marks from the Clear quickconnect history, and Clear reconnect information boxes. 5. Click on the OK button to execute the delete. 6. The queued files have been deleted from the queue. Use following commands to complete the installation. $ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:n-muench/programs-ppa $ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install filezilla https://www.quora.com/How-do-I-fix-%E2%80%9CAdding-PPAs-is-not-supported%E2%80%9D-in-Linux-Mint-Debian?share=1 So I shifted my rummaging to trying to understand why LMDE packages and Ubuntu packages aren’t compatible. I think I get the drift of the problem from this 2014 web page: How To Add Launchpad PPAs In Debian Via `add-apt-repository` Command which discusses trying to add Ubuntu PPA’s to Debian Linux systems. It says: Important: many Launchpad PPAs are not compatible with Debian, because the packages are built against specific Ubuntu libraries. Some Launchpad PPAs work in Debian though - for example, the WebUpd8 Java and Atom PPAs. So make sure you know what you're doing before adding a Launchpad PPA in Debian! So, I’ll take a guess that the LMDE folks deliberately disabled apt’s support for PPA’s to help keep their user’s out of trouble. I suspect that to safely support PPA’s, LMDE would need a whole separate repository infrastructure to provide PPA’s specifically built for LMDE. The web meme that I’m reminded of here is “Ain’t nobody got time for that”. # $ bash "$d_SysMaint"'internet & wifi/FileZilla notes.txt' # enddoc
