/home/bill/System maintenance/D-Link/D-Link driver install.txt - Setup of D-Link PCI Wifi D-Link Wireless N 150 Desktop Adapter DWA-525 PN CWA 525NA...A1 S/N PVFB1B5000047 HW ver A1 F/W ver 1.10 ****************************** 01Jun2013 D-Link problem may be ndiswrapper use? see /home/bill/System maintenance/Linux system notes - problems, updates, etc, etc.txt ****************************** 17May2013 - still can't connect through cellphone MAC address of cellphone : 60:21:C0:1D:0E:1A -> this is NOT used!!! (use the D-Link MAC address "14:D6:4D:AB:5F:09 (wlan0)" ) password for Koodo phone : 63b156828fa9 -> but I can't enter this!!! Maybe I have to be superuser to do this? I'll log out as bill, and log in as admin? -> can't (?) open terminal window, type "sudo -i", and try to launch "Network Tools" from the command line consol root@bill-desktop:~# "Network Tools" -> didn't work ****************************** 16May2013 - re-setup tethering through (new Koodo) cellphone Note that I am missing the antenna for the D-Link internal modem for the Lenovo desktop computer Can't seem to find the wireless setup stuff on Kubuntu -> Application launcher -> System -> "Network tools" 130516 AndroidA3099 tethering setup.jpg = jpeg screenshots of setup Application launcher -> Graphics -> Ksnapshot I can't seem to set the Wireless security/ password This shit doesn't work - and I have no idea why! Still can seem to find the wireless "ON" button/interface! Try removing the MAC address (like the "Cloned MAC address") - I can't actually delete it! - still cannot enter password for wireless security! - it is the MAC address "14:D6:4D:AB:5F:09 (wlan0)" that disallows "Save" of settings, and disallows the security/pwd AH HAH!!! - eureka - I couldn't even connect my Dell laptop to the cellphone, and it seems to be because of the Linksys router, and NOT the Lenovo desktop! Now I can try the Lenovo connect again? ****************************** 12-15Oct2012 Installation on backup computer after main computer blew out I installed the modern version of Ubuntu 12.04, then went through the ndiswrapper install process based on the listing below, but unfortunately lost the documentation when copying files from the old hard drive. The connection was disrupted when I turfed the "Unity" interface (no task manager fro open files!) and installed Kubuntu. However, the system didn't actually seem to need or use ndiswrapper, and it works much better tan with the old Ubuntu, so perhaps wireless deveces are better supported now. When I bot, the connection is automatic. System settings -> From wireless icon bottom right of screen -> click to open "WLAN Interface / Connections" -> click on Manage Connections -> opens "Configue KDE Control Module" -> Connection name = HowellAndroidAP3744 Checks -> Connect automatically, System connection "Wireless" tab -> click on HowellAndroidAP3744 SSID = HowellAndroidAP3744 Mode = Infrastructure BSSID = blank Restrict to interface = anything Cloned MAC address = blank MTU = automatic "Wireless security" tab Security = WPA/WPA2 Personal pwd = aes5ya4qumft show password = not checked except when needed -> Advanced Permissions -> bill is one of "users allowed to activate connection" -> set to on -> "connect automatically" & "system connection" Driver : rt2800pci ****************************** 24Mar2012 Setup of D-Link PCI Wifi This follows : /home/bill/System maintenance/ndiswrapper usb wifi.txt - setup & troubleshooting wifi USB 06Mar2012 /usr/src/ndiswrapper/ndiswrapper-1.57/ % Install text file driver file on CD that came with D-Link : /media/cdrom0/adapter/driver/xp/Drt2860.inf copied to : /home/bill/System maintenance/D-Link Wireless N 150 Desktop PCI Adapter wifi/Drt2860.inf $ sudo -i # ndiswrapper -i "/home/bill/System maintenance/D-Link Wireless N 150 Desktop PCI Adapter wifi/Drt2860.inf" installing drt2860 ... couldn't find models section "D-Link" - installation may be incomplete ++ OK, that didn't work.
