/home/bill/System_maintenance/Android 3099/0_notes Android - Linux file transfers.txt *************************** 20Dec2016 https:/Transferring photos and videos from an Android smartphone to a PC /www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCDaQLeAnqg I can't find the USB tether link!!! (I used to use this) >> Eventually, I was able to download Androiid -> PC, but - must sometimes plug/unplug USB cable - like the article mentions - it seems to be problematic that the Android pops up in the nemo file manager - very frustrating and unreliable - need patience for "Samsung Android" to show up - may have to change windows & come back? - must connect cellphone DIRECTLY to computer USB - not the hub! ***************************** 09Nov2015 http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=32933 As per the blog postings below, I downloaded : Software Manager -> gmtp Software Manager -> mtp-tools On Android - go to "Tethering & Mobile hotspot" -> USB tethering click on. Connection icon at top of screen shows ethernet & Android connected, but gMTP doesn't connect? error msg "... Detect : No raw devices found ..." I disconnected USB, and tried again - success! I used this to upload photos from my Android to desktop, then post Yves Poirier Lake Agnes (Banff) pictures to my website via FireFTP. +-----+ Reported by Allix.Da...@gmail.com, Jun 10, 2012 I would like to see a port of Android File Transfer for linux. I have recently bought a Samsung Galaxy sIII which only has the option for PTP or MTP. In the past android phones that I have used, there has been the option for UMS (usb mass storage). Beyond transferring files via wifi, there is no means to access the phones storage. Photos and Music can be transferred with certain applications ( such as Digikam, rhythmbox, amarok )but any other file format (such as PDF,.odf) cannot be copied. I started a thread on Fedora forums which lays out the steps I have tried. http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=280804 Somebody else has also started a thread for Ubuntu. http://askubuntu.com/questions/146529/unable-to-mount-samsung-galaxy-s3-via-usb Ideally the project would be open source so that integration with various file managers would be possible, and the possibility for a open source community to port the code to BSD based systems. Jun 16, 2012 #1 darran.k...@gmail.com For general file access, there are two main options. 1. mtpfs - http://www.adebenham.com/mtpfs/ 2. gMTP - http://sourceforge.net/projects/gmtp/ gMTP is available in the main software repositories in Arch, Ubuntu, Debian and Gentoo, and provides an easy to use GUI setup. (Note: gMTP works on Solaris, FreeBSD and OpenBSD as well). For Fedora, you'll need to build gMTP yourself. Note: I recommend that you get the latest release of gMTP (v1.3.3) as this has some enhancements for Android 3.2/4.0. There are however some bugs with Android 3.2/4,0, that render some functions of gMTP mute (like playlist and album art support). +-----+ http://news.softpedia.com/news/How-to-Transfer-Files-from-Ubuntu-to-Android-341722.shtml enddoc
