Summary of the sftp server [goals, constraints, setup, operation, usage, problems]

This summary is targeted at future [General, Publications] Co-Chairs, but it may be of interest to some of the users as well, especially those who would like to understand more about the details. It is a separate web-page from the main "Attendees downloads of conference papers", as it really isn't useful to attendees needs when it comes to using the sftp server.

31Jul&01Aug2019 Email warning to attendees - The email body below was sent to attendees to warn them of the imminent sftp server deqactivations. This also links to the [web, blog]-pages, and describes some ofthe common problems that IJCNN attendees encountered when trying to download :

Subject: FINAL reminder to finish your paper downloads, within ONE week!

Although all recipients of this email have accessed the IJCNN sftp server, but I am sending this email to remind those who haven't completed the downloads to do so now.

As attendees of IJCNN2019, you may download ONE copy of the complete set of papers on the server, if you do so between 27Jun2019 and 07Aug2019. Remember to download ONLY the pdfs that are newer than any that you have downloaded already (this is usually a [setting, option] in the sftp program).

I will NOT be providing email technical support at this late stage, so please do NOT send emails to me, unless :

Obviously, DO NOT DISTRIBUTE these copyrighted papers! DO NOT download multiple copies of the papers.

ACCESS PROBLEMS

Although ~16 people have requested help to access the site, and another ~17 requested that their [username, password] be re-activated after being de-activated for [excessive accesses, I am not sure that anyone who has worked through the challenge has failed to connect. Of course, many might have failed but did not notify me.

All of my recent support has involved simply repeating what has already been provided as instructions. There is no sense in spending my time on this. Additionally, I am sure that attendees found solutions to their unique problems by themselves, but I receive very little feedback on that. If you take your time, read the instructions

The top 4 problems that attendees have encountered, in decreasing order of frequency :
  1. failure to read instructions, including the items listed below
  2. you cannot use your browser, you need an sftp [program, add-on, plug-in]
  3. [slow, unreliable] internet connections
  4. deactivation of access - this will occur if :
    • you access the site >4 times. (in other words -> get in, download all, get out)
    • >5 days has passed since your last access
  5. you never received an email with your [username, password] (double-check that you did not!)
You MUST use the same email address to communicate with me as the one that you registered with!)
Why don't things work?
Sometimes I look at it as the normal Unix utility learning process (eg [grep, sed, diff, com, etc]):
Do NOT contact me for your [username, passwords], unless you did NOT receive these (and check to make SURE that you did not!!). Attendees have received at least one email, and often two or more, providing that information. It is not my job to compensate for your email management problems, and I won't spend time on that.

See the [web, blog]-pages for many more problems.

You MUST use an sftp program - your browser won't work!

Perhaps not surprisingly, the most common problem was people's unfamiliarity with sftp. It's a bit strange that so many seemed to be trapped in the browser world, though.

Proper connection port for sftp

Li Tang - You probably have not properly specified the port, as clearly indicated in the error message :

Protocol error: Unknown protocol identifier (0x83 0x83 0x72). Most likely connected to the wrong port.
Connection to server closed.

This is issue mentioned on the information web-page. I use port 22, so try that if you have not already done so. But I cannot help you to find other ports that your system might use. It's possible that sftp connections are blocked by default on your system, so you'll have to ask your system administrators.

By the way, you put your email as contact person for two registrations, so you received two passwords :
...deleted...
...deleted...

The second one will have over-ridden the first, so try them both. That might also be the cause of your problem.

I didn't see your email until this morning, as it had been filtered to an IEEE email directory of mine.

As a standard security measure, on 23Jul2019 all users who had not accessed the system within 7 days were deactivated. I will be doing the same tomorrow. As your account was accessed 28Jun2019, it is no longer active, but I will reactivate it tomorrow (today I am working out of town).

Make sure that you download all files in one or two sessions. Accesses in excess of 4 can also result in deactivation.

The [username, password] protection of IJCNN2019 conference papers is the "first stage" to prevent downloading by non-attendees. The second step is the deactivation of users who have accessed the site an unusual number of times.

As you have all accessed the site >=6 times, your username has been deactivated. However, on further investigation, it seems that at least 12 of 18 of you were having some kind of difficulty accessing the documents.
If were not able to download the files before deactivation, and of course would still like to, answer the questions above in an email to me and ask for reactivation.

<...recipient name...> - I have used our email exhanges as a means of showing some of the problems that can be encountered. I hope you don't mind that, as this is how problems have been fixed. I assume that you have downloaded everything already, so there is no further need for access.

Your access to the sftp server are far higher than normal, so I have just deactivated them as normal procedure. However, there is a chance that you have been having legitimate problems (albeit far beyond the norm). If you can explain that to me, and still need to finish downloads, then I could reactivate your access for a short period.

This comes at a time when some attendees have apparently been doing an outrageous number of downloads, far in excess of your accesses. There is a possibility that those users have passed around their [username, password]s to MANY of their colleagues, who have been doing pirated downloads. I can't see anyone actually accessing the server than many times by themselves, unless they have absolutely nothing to do with their time and lives .

HTML corrupts the password!!

Many thanks to a graduate student and supervisor, who prefer not to haveemail exchanges shown, for a unique example of a serious problem of HTML corruption of passwords. This is the only direct example that I can remember.

Essentially, when looking at the [username, password] that they received from me, the "visible characters" were quite different from the actual characters because of html character interpretations. While a warning had been in the instructions since the beginning about this potential problem, it is somethign that most of us would ignore to begin with, and would miss with subsequent checks.

Even worse, even though the instructions state that the password should be 12 characters in length, quirky passwords could still give the same string length (this was not the case here). But the instructions also warn about that, and state how to check.

This problem arose because I stupidly used the same approach for passwords as I have used personally for decades - exploit as many characters as the system being used supports, which in the case of [Unix, Linux] systems is a lot (I haven't tried full uncode). The problem is that I am used to the [problems, solutions] and don't think about them. Systems administrators usually restrict passwords to simple alpha-numeric to avoid this problem! (Actually, they don't use emailing of [username, passwords] which is highly insecure!)

Able to logon but can't download?!?

S.N. Balakrishnan of Missouri S&T U, USA, mentioned verbally that although the sftp server login had been successful several times, downloading of files could not be done. This is the only case that I have heard of, and it is of great concern if it affects others!! It might possibly be due to too many users at the time, connection problems, or not realising how long it takes to download (1-2 hours for low speed internet, 1 Giga-byte).

Please email me if it has happened to you. Technical details like [context, error messages, etc] would help.

I just logged on under your [username, password] and downloaded paper N-19005.pdf.

Your image is very blurred - it looks like there is a red-font error message "HMAC corruption" (confirmed - this is the same as your previous screen capture errors). That doesn't look good at all - pretty basic error!

1. Perhaps there is no agreement on a "message authentication code (MAC)" between your sftp program, and the sftp server? It is my guess that your sftp program will adapt to whatever protocols the sftp server is using, but it could be the other way around.

Please look for your SFTP Chrome add on's HMAC setting, if it has one (probably not - this will likely be buried in the system as most users don't want to see it). Perhaps it defaults to something rather than being "auto".

2. Is the password being emptied properly? the picture shows only 9 "*".s, but your password MUST be 12 characters long. Most likely the number of "*"'s doesn't vary with the length of the passwords - but try one very short, and one very long fake password just to see how many "*"'s come up.

3. Just as your system won't allow FileZilla, it may be blocking (firewall or other security measures) it's function, in spite of what system administrators say. I still recommend using your home computer. I am not helping you very well, and we are running out of time.

4. Perhaps you can simply ask your IT people to do the download and pass t to you (good luck on that!) ).

Your's is a very special problem. Knowing the answer might help future conference attendees.

FileZilla connection failure

The frequent frustrations with sftp setup, and the frustrations of trying to provide support when I don't have sftp system administration experience, are well reflected below.

Worse, we have no idea of what the problem was and how it was resolved.

Most users seem to resolve the problems, and although I know of only one or two who simply couldn't resolve their issues, I suspect that the number is MUCH higher!!! After all, about have of the 900 attendees didn't access the system, whereas I expected only 25% not to do so (but that was a pure guess).

I just re-tested your [username, password] from here, and it worked fine.

Going over some of the details :

Your system is using port 22 (hopefully that is correct, but it is the port that I use)
Logon Type : You have "Normal" which should OK. I use "Ask for password" so that I enter the password every time (extra safety - but not relevant here).
There are 12 characters in your "ghosted-out" password, so I don't think that your email has "truncated, re-interpreted] the characters (but I can't see the password to be sure).

I don't think that these will help, but try :

Try "Logon Type" = "Ask for password", even though I don't think that's the problem. But I NEVER see the command that you get (below) so I can't compare without switching, and Im not going to do that.
Try "Quick Logon"
Try bumping up your "Maximum number of connections" to 2.
I hope that you are not initiating the logon, then going on to something else to wait for it. You will be quickly dropped if you aren't active!
Look at the [web, blog]-pages, as there might be a hint in there. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to update those for a while, so many recent solutions aren't there.

Try again, and if nothing works, send me your password. Although the [username, password] emails are usually [generated, sent] automatically, there is a chance that you received the wrong password, or that it was corrupted.

Dear Bill,

Thanks for your kind. However, I still cannot access the sftp.

My setting of FileZilla is as below figure. Of course, ID and password are filled below “Logon Type”. Furthermore, I didn’t change other settings. Could you check if my setting is correct at your convenience?

I'm sorry for my very delayed response. I must have filed this and lost treack of the email. I can only work from my cellphone now, and will be in Friday workshops today.

The logon looks wrong : "xxxxxxxxxxxxx@bh.cust.lexi.net" ((01Aug2019 Howell - I was totally wrong here: "...@bh.cust.lexi.net" is fine, where "..." is the username.))
Normally, one only sees something like (I forget details) : Sftp://bh.cust.lexi.net"

However, you might be using the command line or something.

Perhaps by now u\you have already solved the problem, but let me know if you still cannot access. I won't be able to do much while travelling this weekend.

Sorry, Wendong, I was using my cellphone on the road and didn't take a close look at the details.

"... Command: open "...@bh.cust.lexi.net" 22 ..."

does not look valid ( although it might be). ((01Aug2019 Howell - I was totally wrong here: "...@bh.cust.lexi.net" is fine, where "..." is the username.)) With FileZilla, I don't set up a login file. It's a really bad [idea, practice] to use files with your password, as it's security risk to have passwords lying around. I've done that before, and sure enough, embarassingly the password pops up as if it has a life on its own, so Itry to abvoid that!

Instead, FileZilla allows a "formal" login that is pre-setup, and a "Quick Connect" where you simply enter (copy-past) the 4 pieces of information to log in. I use the latter for convenience. You probably won't ever use this server again, so why waste time setting up a login profile?

Try again - your case may be different, and important to have on hand to help others.

First of all, you should at least have a clear idea that the login was successful! It's not clear from what you have provided to me.

It looks like you logged in and perhaps waited around to start downloads. Your connection will be terminated if you take too long to start. I'm travelling and can't check the details, but even when I get back home, I may not be able to get to this fast - there are just too many last minute upgrades to the bash scripts, allowable accesses, and author requests to do a lot of detailed work.

There have been quite a few accesses today, and there is a possibility that bandwidth limitations, or bad connections have cause the problem.

Try again, but try to start downloading immediately. Maybe that will work.

Bill

Hi Howell,

My name is Wendong Zheng, the author of IJCNN-19607, and I have some problems downloading the paper in STFP.

I visited SFTP as you said, and the username and password were copied to text files before filling in the quick connection column of FileZilla software. However, after receiving the open command, there was a problem with the link not connecting to the server and the link time out. I still can't solve it by using VPN (I've turned off the firewall!). I hope to get your help. Have a nice day!

The details:

<...password...>
22

Response: fzSftp started, protocol_version=8
Command: open "<...>
Error: no activity after 20 seconds, connection timeout

So when I comment out them I cannot make it.

I don't know - I imagine it could be either, as the author might have picked weird styles, or you may be missing it. He would have to send you the details of his pageno. Styles.

However, this may be a red herring - papers should NOT have page numbers! That is clearly specified (if I remember correctly).

Carlos Alexandre - All accepted paper should make it into Xplore. A number of papers require changes, most are very simple [page size, margin] corrections.

In your case, the paper may be one of those with markings from a different conference (I am travelling and camnnot check any details). That's a HUGE mistake to submit a paper that looks already published, but as long as it is legitimate (Chul Sung should check) it can be published.

You might have hit the jackpot - perhaps as many as 30-40 papers failed CrossCheck, but we could not react in time so they are accepted for IJCNN2019. This is a good warning to yo - high self-similarity is the major reason for CrossCheck failures, so don't get caught next year and re-work your work!

Reformat and save your paper, then email to Chul Sung and cc me.

Bill Howell

Good afternoon Mr. Howell,

My name is Carlos Silva, and I had an accepted paper for IJCNN2019.
When I went to download the accepted papers, I noticed that mine (number 20125) had an observation in "problematic papers.txt" that it was accepted but did not go through CrossCheck criteria. This paper is the progression of a work that I published in IJCNN 2018, so it is possible that they have an content intersection, always with all the quotations.

I'd like to know how to proceed in this case. Will the article be maintained in IJCNN and IEEE Xplore, or will it be withdrawn?

Thanks in advance!

Gonzalo - Thanks for the comment. I just answered a similar question, but I'm working from my cellphone, so if I get the chance tomorrow I'll link you with the other aithor to see if someone solves the problem. Tonight is the first time I hear of this problem.

There is no alternative - DropBox, at least in its simple free form, does not appear to be appropriate for this, although other IEEE conferences might be using it.
(07Jul2019 Howell - I was wrong (dumb comment). Of course there are alternatives, but in the current case I meant that I didn't QUICKLY find a really easy cheap alternative, I am using my ssh VPN which I trust, and I don't have time to play around!)

Check to make sure that your login worked. If I remember correctly - you do not have much time to start downloading, so as soon as your are logged in. Start the download of all files. Make sure the port is correct for your system. And it's possible that heavy volume is limiting bandwidth today, although I wonder...

Common problems seem to be :
  • you must use an sftp program - that error has come back to those using a browser (that ould only work with an sftp add-on or plug-in)
  • pick the proper port : I use port 22, your system may be different, or your organisation may block the usage of sftp?
  • Sometime sporadic connection problems occur, as happened to me on Friday, even though I live only 100+ km from the server area (I live in the country, cellphone-type low speed only).
  • A very few attendees are listed 2 or 3 times because their email is also the contact for others from their organisation. Only the last-enabled password will work. Try all of them and see which works. I don't have access to my files now while travelling, so I cannot see if that applies to you.
Let me know if you are able to connect.

Javad Alirezaie- I appreciate your email. It's [worrying, frustrating] when people can't access the server (or correct their papers), and it's infrequent that any of us have an exact reason why.

Sometimes I look at it as the normal Unix utility learning process (eg [grep, sed, diff, com, etc]):
  • it helps to have a little explanation to start with, but these are never really exact and don't work
  • it helps far more to have concrete examples with actual values (blogs are often key)
  • somehow the [grammar, syntax] snaps in place and the problems magically disappear, without understanding how
  • While one can point out differences between what [does, doesn't] work, it doesn't usually fit into explanations but works wonderfully well after practice.

As you had previously logged onto the server more than 5 days ago as of 23Jul2019 (see below), your account was deactivated. I should have mentioned that in the emails I just sent to users who have accessed the system (~50% of attendees), although it is clearly indicated in the "Access Problems" section.

I have just re-activated your [username, password], and tested that it works. Hopefully, FileZilla will work for you now.

As I mentioned in the email, I am NOT providing technical support at this time, as :
  • the vast majority of users don't seem to have a problem beyond the usual getting used to new software (see "Access Problems" in the email that was sent - ~16 challenged users of ~439 that have accessed the server). Of course I could be wrong about this, as some of those who have not accessed yet may not have been able to. But the lack of emails indicates that this is not a big problem.
  • most of the problems are resolved after users take a look at the details
  • sftp is extremely well supported and described on blogs etc. - the IJCNN2019 blog is puny in comparison
  • as a volunteer, I have to get back to my priority [responsibilities, projects]
One strange thing that might help is setting the port as 1022 instead of 22? I came across that not long ago, although I doubt I could easily find it again.

Common issues

I sympathize with your frustrations : "... To be honest, I did not expect to spend this much time just to download the papers something that all attendees deserve to have without any hassle! ..."
  • The system does not optimise ease of use, or the papers would simply be posted publicly. It is a compromise between usage and security. That compromise is a minimalist one - it is not highly secure, nor is it extremely easy. I see the key problem as being the lack of "very basic security skills" on the part of users.

  • At least sftp it isn't as bad as [public, private] key encryption : few IJCNN people (or other) I've worked with are any good at all at that even if it is simple.
From my point of view the problems with sftp access have been essentially the same as the problems of authors who couldn't fix completely-wrong [paper size, margins, font] even after 3 to 5 iterations. This tends to follow a progression :
  • they don't have a problem - and it often takes a couple of emails for them to even see their problem
  • they didn't read any of the information, or didn't go into the details
  • they require 2-4 iterations to really get into the problem, repeated advice is necessary
  • rarely is anything new [learned, added to the list]
  • when they finally resolve their problem, in spite of my requests they rarely provide clues as to what their problem was, or how they fixed it.

Fair comment, Anthony. I threw together this sftp setup at the last minute when two other groups failed to get it done over the past two months.

The first thought was to use DropBox and many, many similar setups, but none complied with IEEE requirements for providing online access to conference papers. I assume that other conferences do use DropBox etc, and perhaps an upgraded version allows compliance. But I had no time for this - when I started it up and sent the first email notifications, it was already 2-3 weeks late, and I knew that sftp would do the job (for me, peerhaps not so easy for the users).

I wonder if the normal organisational restrictions on software downloads are a major impediment to using sftp? That would have been a problem at work for me (I'm retired), but I always used my home computers to do anything anyways.

The lack of downloads is not surprising. There is too much work involved. If there was a simple link to each, I would have downloaded them already.

Thanks for your additional comments, <...attendee name...>. You bring out
some good points. In a few hours, I will post these to the theme "This
sftp system has failed for me, go back to USB memory sticks" on the
blog-page :

http://www.billhowell.ca/Neural nets/Conference guides/Author guide website/Attendee downloads of conference papers blog.html

If you want to change the title or add comments (or get the comments of
others), just let me know.

Just one correction - I am absolutely NOT a specialist or a techie. I've
never worked as that and wouldn't want too, especially on the tech support
side! The IJCNN2019 sftp server for papers is the first time that I've
played that role, other than as [nominal, figurehead] manager of a Lotus
Notes system which was so robust I hardly ever did anything with it. A
consultant took care of the very rare real things that came up. I have
used ftp in the past, but never ran an ftp or sftp system.

I'll try not to feel evil as "Big Brother". Actually I had no time to put
in a download volume-based cut-off, and threw together the access limit
control which is far from ideal!! - you are absolutely correct about
that. But another constraint was that I would not put in automated
programs to do the security controls (the user login itself is an example
of an automated control), as again, there wasn't time and frankly I was
afraid of trashing the server when working in too much of a rush. It [was,
is] not clear where a threshold should be set, and without the automated
controls the system is reactionary rather than real-time. But access
limits was the key simple security measure to avoid vulnerability of
wandering [username, password]s.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, ultimately perhaps all [journal, conference]
papers will be open source, and all of these headaches will disappear.

Hi Bill,

I appreciate your reactivation. However, I will not use it any more so you
are welcome to deactivate. I spent several hours of my time trying to
access in the past. So the lessons-learnt, for me, do not get into that
again. Now: YOU are an excellent specialist and based on what I hear you
probably you spent 100s of hours, which is really absolutely inappropriate
to expect, accept, tolerate. I only hope this distribution approach will
not be repeated for future conferences I am involved with.

As a side issue: That I am blacklisted with 10+ or so accesses, I find it
ridiculous, you can pass on this opinion to whoever you find appropriate.
The very fact that somebody is watching over your shoulder and "evaluates"
that you may be abusing the system make me wonder if this the right way to
distribute proceedings for which I paid for and I am entitled to have, but
I cannot. A flashback to 1984 ... and so on.

The sad fact is that with my *anomalous* 10+ accesses I could hardly
download the 5 papers from my session. In fact I had no chance to get my
own paper. My two cents is that if there are people abusing the system,
they are professionals, and will not need 5 or 10+ accesses, they can do,
and will do with a single swipe. But it is past tense, what may be need I
will get via academic account, perhaps a few months down the line.

Have a great summer, <...attendee name...>

<...attendee name...> - I have reactivated your [username, pwd].
Reminder : [pwd, username] = <... details removed ...>

As per my email of 01Aug2019 below, I am reactivating access for those who
require it, albeit a number of users with extremly high accesses (some
"excessive users" have >>20 accesses!!) are being questioned about their
use.

You had a high number of accesses (10+), as can be compared in the table
"Accesses per user" below, but much less than the "Top ten accessors"
table below. This probably reflects your difficulties in Budapest. By the
way, it took 1.5 days for me to get access, as the wifi would not work with
my Linux (only PC, Mac), and my cellphone roaming didn't kick in for 24
hours. My other problem was to borrow a computer monitor, which took some
time and which resulted in sporadic use of my computer as well.

"Excessive users" are a key focus for deactivation. Up until 28Jul2019
[Organising Committee, INNS, IEEE] users were excluded from deactivation,
but the general assumption is that a long period since the last access
indicates completed downloads now applies to them as well.

I appreciate your email below. You have good comments, and a survey could
be interesting. I am going to get some running excercise and will provide
some [questions, comments] later today or tomorrow.

... the following tables were removed, but can be found via the link
Attendee downloads - summary.html :
  • Attendee and hackers accesses (02Aug2019)
  • Distribution of the number of accesses per user
  • Top ten users by number of accesses

Hi Bill,

You do a terrific job on multiple fronts, congrats and thank you!

As for the online access/download of IJCNN2019 proceedings:
My vote would go for NOT to do such things in the future. If you collect such poll there is mine.

I do understand this way we can save perhaps a few $1000 for conf budget. Still. What I can say is that I spent perhaps 2 hours trying to download, and I could download perhaps 6-8 those papers for a Session I chaired and wanted to be familiar with. But it so much took time. Also I know that bandwidth is an issue.

All in all, I do not have the proceedings, which is sad. Of course through academic subscription and IEEE membership but it is not the same as to be able to browse through the proceedings. That is lost in this transition.

I know I am old fashioned, and probably there is not much need by others for proceedings.

But this of course does not take a you out of your merits.

Have a great summer,

Marley - Thanks very much for the heads up! Sorry for the delayed response, I've been focussed on bash scripts to insert copyrights etc into the pdfs since this morning, and only just looked at my email.

I also got the same error when I tried to join the site using "one of" your passwords. It worked fine with my administrative password, and it worked for several other users picked at random. The "Recent attendee logons" (see below) also seem normal.

On second look, the passwords for the initial users got changed by accident (automatic script), and in your case I had tried the first password below :
Non-working ...

With the updated password from the email to you 28Jun2019, it worked :
working ...

So your access works, its just that I screwed up informing by giving you 2 passwords, and I can't even remember the context now...

Sorry Marley. But I do intend to send a reminder email, and given your challenge, I should redo individual email reminders with the current passwords! (easy to say, easier to mess up ). But first - I have to upgrade the "permissions statements" that go on the pdfs, which is what I've been trying to resolve today.

  • it helps to have a little explanation to start with, but these are never really exact and don't work
  • somehow the [grammar, syntax] snaps in place and the problems magically disappear, without understanding how
  • While one can point out differences between what [does, doesn't] w
ork, it doesn't usually fit into explanations but
  • works wonderfully well after practice.

Thanks, Javad - this helps. I am working from my cellphone, while my computer is taking it's time sending the emails like you received. My script is using low-level signalling, which blows up quite easily.

I wasn't thinking fully when I last responded. The sftp is running from my recently "re-incarnated" ssh server, which I gave up 4 years ago because of the cost. However, I'm terrified of messing around with the sftp server at this critical time when attendees are downloading. I also cannot use my ssh server as I would like in the interim, for the same fear.

All "normal users" cannot log in via the normal ssh process (I can as root, but even then there are abnormal limitations), but must use sftp.

Please allow me until Sunday (or Monday, depending on problems I am having with upgrades to all the posted paper pdfs (copyright sentences - not exactly what you were looking for anyways), and support for Sponsors, and quick replies on simple access problems of other attendees. I'm sure that your problem can be resolved, completely unsure that I am the one that can do it, It's interesting, though. I looked briefly at putty some time ago, but I thik that was for something veryspecific, and I haven't used it in practice.

You have provided me with an error message "unable to open N-19326.pdf", which is more than most people .

On the basis of that, it looks like your program is trying to open the file rather than download it. I assume that you are not using an sftp [program, plug-in], in which case you will not be able to download. This was explained on the web-page. Aother frequent problem are connection problems, but at least users can download some individual files.

But thanks for letting me know, Javad. Please try again with the proper program, and let me know how it goes. I have not had a chance to post blog comments from other users that would help those experiencing difficulties, but that is to far down a long priority list, unfortunately.

My computer is almost completely tied up today (assuming that my connection doesn't fail - atmospheric conditions occasionally prevent connections out here in the country), so I may not be able to ready emails until later tonight or Sunday.

New attendee registrations must be confirmed by the conference management company

This series of emails illustrates an important point - that I must receive confirmations of new attendee registrations DIRECTLY from the [INNS, IJCNN2019] conference management company.

Also, for attendees that already appear on my list of registered attendees, any requests for [usernames, passwords] MUST come from the EXACT same email address that they registered with. It is the [only, minimal] security that I have!

server, but now my cellphone access is finally working, so I am tethering
instead).

No problems with downloads
