Asked 9 years, 11 months ago Modified 9 years, 10 months ago Viewed 13k times I figured out how to do it! The reason that it wasn't saving the tool options even though I had selected "save tool options on exit" was because I was changing the font size on the controls that come up when you click in the image to create a new text box. This is just the controls for that text box, it isn't the actual tool options. To change the actual tool options you have to DOUBLE click the text tool icon (the big "A") in the Toolbox. This brings up the actual tool options, where you can edit and save the options. answered Sep 7, 2013 at 0:19 Alex319 >> Howell - didn't work in LMDE +-----+ https://www.gimp-forum.net/Thread-How-do-I-change-the-default-color-and-size-of-fonts-in-GIMP How do I change the default color and size of fonts in GIMP? 09-11-2021, 06:16 PM (This post was last modified: 09-11-2021, 06:17 PM by PixLab.) Varying brush size You can get the brush size varying in three ways: 1. Using the Size slider of the tool options. Pencil, Paintbrush, Eraser, Airbrush, Clone, Heal, Perspective Clone, Blur/Sharpen and Dodge/Burn tools have a slider to vary the brush size. >> Bullshit - there is no size slider!!! (I think I did something in the past) 2. By programming the mouse wheel: In the main window of GIMP, click on Edit → Preferences. In the left column of the new window, select Input Devices → Input Controllers. You can see Additional Input Controllers, with two columns: Available Controllers and Active Controllers. In the column Active Controllers, double-click the Main Mouse Wheel button. Then, you see a new window: Configure Input Controller. In the left column Event, click Scroll Up to get it highlighted. Click the Edit button (at the bottom middle of the list). You can see the window Select Controller Event Action. Drop-down the Tools item, by clicking the small triangle on its left. In the left column Action, click Increase Brush Scale to highlight it, then click the OK button. Now, in front of Scroll Up is display tools-paint-brush-scale-increase. Close the window. With the same method, program Scroll Down with Decrease Brush Scale. Don't forget to click the OK button of the main window of Preferences. After these somewhat long explanations, you can use your mouse wheel to vary size brush. For example, choose the pencil tool with the “Circle” brush. Set the pointer in the image window, use the mouse wheel, in the two directions, you can see the “Circle” shrinking or stretching. 3. You can program the “Up” and “Down” arrow keys of the keyboard. The method is similar to that of the mouse wheel. The only differences are: In the column Active Controllers, double-click Main Keyboard. In the column Event, click Cursor Up for the first key, and Cursor Down for the second key. Then, use the two keys (Up arrow and Down arrow) and the result is the same as you got with the mouse wheel. 14Dec2023 Menu -> Edit -> Preferences -> Additional Input Controllers -> Keyboard -> Main Keyboard -> Cursor Left (Alt) tool-size-decrease -> Cursor Right (Alt) tool-size-increase +-----+ Paths tool 6.2.2. It also makes it easy to apply the same set of operations to a number of images. We have got a lot of questions on the mailing-lists on how to use the batch mode and this small page tries to explain the basics to you. GIMP can be started with a number of command-line options. Let’s have a closer look at the output of gimp --help In order to do image processing from the command-line, you usually use the Script-Fu batch interpreter. This is the default, which makes things simple. To give you an impression of what can be done, try the interactive console mode: gimp -b - This will tell GIMP to start in batch mode and accept commands on the command-line. This is essentially the same as using the Script-Fu console. It would however be tedious to enter the commands here, so instead we will create a simple script and show you how to run that: A simple example : (define (simple-unsharp-mask filename radius amount threshold) (let* ((image (car (gimp-file-load RUN-NONINTERACTIVE filename filename)) ) (drawable (car (gimp-image-get-active-layer image))) ) (plug-in-unsharp-mask RUN-NONINTERACTIVE image drawable radius amount threshold) (gimp-file-save RUN-NONINTERACTIVE image drawable filename filename) (gimp-image-delete image) ) ) This simple script takes a filename and some numeric parameters. It opens the respective file, applies the Unsharp Mask filter and saves the image again (be careful, for the sake of simplicity this script overwrites the original image). It does all this w/o any user interaction, so we can run it without any user interface. In order to do that, save the script with the .scm extension in the ~/.gimp-2.4/scripts directory. Then run it like this: gimp -i -b '(simple-unsharp-mask "foo.png" 5.0 0.5 0)' -b '(gimp-quit 0)' There is a catch here: Some plugins or Script-Fu scripts create new layers and then flatten the image again. This changes the drawable ID. If this is the case insert the following line to get the current drawable ID just before saving the image: (set! drawable (car (gimp-image-get-active-layer image))) ... Further information If you want to write your own scripts for batch processing, we suggest you use the Procedure Browser as found in the Help menu. It gives you a detailed list of all commands. +--+ >> Howell : This was copied into '/home/bill/.gimp-2.8/scripts/200920 demo.scm' >> how to set the filename?
