"$d_SysMaint""Thunderbird/msf file corruption.txt" ********** ?date? regenerate .msf files https://www.lifewire.com/repair-folders-thunderbird-1173102 Repair Folders in Mozilla Thunderbird To rebuild a Mozilla Thunderbird folder in which emails have disappeared or deleted messages are stubbornly still present: Turn off automatic mail checking as a precaution. This may not be necessary, but it prevents a potential cause for conflicts. With the right mouse button, click on the folder you want to repair in Mozilla Thunderbird. Select Properties… from the menu that appears. Go to the General Information tab. Click Repair Folder. Click OK. You don't have to wait for the rebuilding to finish before clicking OK. However, you should not do anything else in Thunderbird until the rebuilding process is complete. ***************** 12Jan2015 msf file corruption Thunderbird update corrupted mail boxes? How recently have you compacted your folders? Compacting is something that needs to be done regularly in any email program. We recommend weekly, but many of us do it daily. When done often enough, it can be an extremely fast process. Not doing so can lead to problems like those you are experiencing. See this about how to and why it's so important: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders If you haven't been doing that before, and if 'compacting' them now (and leaving a long enough time for the process to complete) doesn't fully resolve the problem then do the following on each account: Close Thunderbird. Find and delete all of the files with the .msf file extension in your profile folder/Mail http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Folder#Thunderbird including your Local Folders, especially if you are using the global inbox. You must have "View hidden files and folders" on http://spywarewarrior.com/viewtopic.php?t=272 and you need to set "hide extensions for known file types" off (just below View Hidden) if you are using Windows. These are your mail summary files and do not hold any messages themselves. They will be rebuilt the next time you open each folder in Thunderbird. Compact all your folders when you have completed this. To avoid this happening again, see the tips in these articles: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Keep_it_worki ... derbird%29 http://kb.mozillazine.org/Performance_%28Thunderbird%29 OXoH5Vs Guest   Reply with quote August 21st, 2008, 2:15 am Posted August 21st, 2008, 2:15 am Thank you for the reply. The account is POP3. I compact two or three times daily (I get quite a lot of e-mails). I have tried deleting the .msf before, but this time I deleted all the .msf's, as you suggested. I still cannot delete attachments to e-mails sent using the Apple Mail client. I can (and have always been able to) delete all other attachments (I believe). I have been using Thunderbird since it was first released and I recall having a problem deleting attachments when that facility was first introduced, but I have noticed recently that I seem to only have this problem from Apple Mail clients. I don't know if it is relevant, but the e-mails from Apple Mail also have an extra attachment/s (which looks like a Firefox file). They are usually called something like Part 1.1.3. They are detected by Thunderbird as hypertext documents. The attachments I most want to delete are not these but large .pdf or .doc files etc. None of them are deletable. If I right click and select delete, I get the "do you wish to continue" warning message. The attachment list flashes but the attachment is not deleted. It is still fully accessible from the e-mail, also. We do this by ensuring that the // part id only has a single period in it (e.g. "1.2"). //TODO: support non-root level attachment delete So, if the attachment is Part 1.1.2 (so that its double is 1.1.3), it cannot be removed.
