Try reading and then deleting the oldest new message using a browser/webmail and then restart Thunderbird. If you're lucky that will free up the logjam and Thunderbird will download new mail starting with the the oldest new mail. The newest new mail is typically at the top of the webmail folder listing. In that case you want to read and delete the one at the bottom of the list of new mail. If necessary compare the subject/time&date from the Thunderbird folder listing with its folder listing to figure out which one would normally be downloaded next. Its possible to have both a POP and a IMAP account for the same email address at the same time. I realize you prefer a POP account but you might temporarily try using a IMAP account to verify you can login to outlook.com and that there is no problems due to your anti-virus scanner etc. You could also use the IMAP account to read and delete the oldest new message rather than doing that via webmail. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Hotmail +-----+ LMDE Menu -> All applications - Firewall configuration gufw Firewall - uncomplicated firewall I disabled it to see the effect >> no help at all. The problem is my laptop downloads all my emails fine whereas my desktop doesn't. According to thunderbird on my desktop I have no new emails, however running it on my laptop reveals new emails. I have a ton of emails sitting on my mail server and my desktop cannot see any of them, is there a way to fix this problem? I have already tried uninstalling thunderbird and removing any registry entries and even after reinstalling I still have this problem. tanstaafl Post Posted March 28th, 2007, 4:54 pm http://kb.mozillazine.org/New_messages_do_not_appear If one of the machines can't download messages I'd suspect a corrupted folder (due to not compacting regularly) rather than a failed attempt to download a "bad" message. See BOTH parts of the "Compacting doesn’t seem to work" section http://kb.mozillazine.org/Compacting_folders Anifinity Posted March 28th, 2007, 5:45 pm I followed the directions on both the links but it still won't download my messages from my mail server. Is there anything else I can try? tanstaafl Posted March 29th, 2007, 4:04 pm Do you get an error message? If so, what is the full text of the error message? http://kb.mozillazine.org/Connection_errors_-_POP3 Try creating a new profile using the profile manager. If that works around the problem then you know it was due to something in your old profile. Then you can either switch back to your old profile and try to fix the problem, or keep using the new profile and migrate your folders and address books. You could also copy your known good profile from the other machine per http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_your_profile_folder and see if it has the same problems. Can you send a message? If so, that rules out a firewall problem. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager http://kb.mozillazine.org/Importing_folders http://kb.mozillazine.org/Moving_address_books_between_profiles 08********08 22Mar2021 file access problem? Try This Media Team | Modified: 2019-12-31T09:56:11+00:00 How to Fix Thunderbird Not Downloading New Messages Issue? If your Mozilla Thunderbird application is having corruption, fragmentation or any other issue then, it is quite common that it will not download your emails. Well, it can happen in any case so no matter which protocol you are using POP or IMAP. Therefore, you need to force Thunderbird to download all messages and below are the guidelines for same. Case 1: If Your Thunderbird Account is POP3 Global searching/ indexing is the global database that utilizes global-messages-db.sqlite as the search index. This file contains a copy of all messages of the user’s Thunderbird account. It replicates emails from the MBOX files generated by synchronization. Sometimes this file gets corrupted due to which Thunderbird becomes unable to download all messages and Thunderbird not downloading new emails issue occurs. To resolve this issue: Quit Thunderbird application Find global-messages-db.sqlite file in your Thunderbird Profile >> /home/bill/Thunderbird/n4caryuo.default/global-messages-db.sqlite This is 1.1 Gb in size! Delete global-messages-db.sqlite file from your local machine to force Thunderbird to download all messages POP3 >> I save to /home/bill/Thunderbird/n4caryuo.default/Howell - globa-messages-db.sqlite 29Jan2021 Now, restart the Thunderbird and re-indexing process will begin automatically >> It works!!!! >> NOTE global-messages-db.sqlite is now 55Mb instead of 1.1 Gb!!!! >> 17Mar2021 545.4 Mb I deleted, but on re-start of Thunderbird, it did not work! compact files - 122Mb saved, Note: The total time taken by application in re-indexing, depends on the number of emails. Sometimes it might take a few minutes to complete the indexing procedure. While the re-indexing process is going on, users can use the Thunderbird however, it may respond slow at that time. The indexing status can be monitored via the Tools >> Activity Manager After that, the Mozilla Thunderbird will download all email messages and synchronize them with your MBOX files. So, this is how Thunderbird not downloading new messages issue can be fixed. # enddoc
