The scope was great. I had similar question : What are the current international thoughts on disposal of waste, contaminated] materials? I think Canada was intending deep storage (recoverable for future processes that may be developed)? Are most countries thinking in similar ways? What about newer concepts for transmutation to stable eleements (probably hi-level materials only)? I like Chris Rees repeated comment about a changing workforce, loss of experience. I usually felt that safety analysis and practice is critically dependent on [very astute, technically wierd] insights into rare combinations of event that I certainly didn't have. Are the returing workers being effectively listened to for this (consilting etc)? +-----+ Notes, thoughts safety by the operator, for the operator contrasts to safety reviews I experienced for relatively small projects : HAZOP Analysis, workers, unions, engineers, satefy people et in underground hard rock mining (I was a government admin person, no expert, just watching for my own experience) [3 Mile Island, Chernobyl, Fukushima] seemed to have some commonalities common failures? : hazard situation identification, preplanned responses, real-time responses to realities (all war plans fail when the shooting starts?), public information, etc - quantitative risk assessment : of course is problematic and subject to widely different opinions, especially when trust is lost key problem #08********08 #] 06Jan2024 emto Bromely - continue #08********08 #] 02Jan2024 Bromley Blair's papers: transmutation with Thorium cycle in PT_HWR see "$d_web"'My sports & clubs/natural- CNS/240102 Howell emto Blair: transmutation of fission wastes.html' QNial rearrange data from pdf : see : table1 := loaddefs '/home/bill/web/My sports & clubs/natural- CNS/240102 Howell emto Blair: Table I Expected Time Scales.txt' Bromely papers stored in "$d_Refs"'fission/' : "$d_Refs"'fission/Colton, Bromley Jul2018 Lattice physics evaluation of mixed oxide thorium based fuels for use in pressure tube heavy water reactors.pdf' "$d_Refs"'fission/Colton, Bromley Mar2021 Reactor Physics Assessment of Potential Feasibility of Using Advanced, Nonconventional Fuels in a Pressure Tube Heavy Water Reactor to Destroy Americium and Curium.pdf' "$d_Refs"'fission/Wojtaszek, Bromley Aug2023 Reactor Physics Assessment of Annular Plutonium-Thorium Fuels for Use in Prismatic Fuel Blocks in a HTGR-SMR with a Hydrogen-Based Moderator (7LiH).pdf' "$d_Refs"'fission/Bromley, Alexander Dec2018 Assessment of fast-spectrum blanket lattices for breeding fissile fuel from thorium and depleted uranium in an externally driven sub-critical gas-cooled pressure tube reactor.pdf' "$d_Refs"'fission/Wojtaszek, Bromley Jul2022 Physics Evaluation of Alternative Uranium-Based Oxy-Carbide Annular Fuel Concepts for Potential Use in Compact High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactors.pdf' -------- Forwarded Message -------- From: Blair To: www.BillHowell.ca , Perry Kinkaide. founder.
